DrawRings

These rings are part of a series of works exploring the possibilities of creating three-dimensional object from two-dimensional images.

Circles were drawn using pencil on paper. They were then scanned and fed into a 3D modelling program that converted the varied tones of the pencil line into peaks and troughs of a 3D object. By applying more or less pressure to the pencil it is possible to influence the way the computer reads the image and builds the model.

A photograph of a ring was used to generate the form below. High contrast in the photograph produces very dramatic three-dimensional geometry.
